The short version
We get commissions for bookings made through links on this site. The price you pay is the same either way, and a commission never buys a place in a guide or changes how somewhere is described.
How the links work
We work with Stay22, a booking partner that handles the accommodation and activity links on this site. Its script rewrites those links after the page loads, adding commission tracking to them automatically. That means we cannot mark individual links at the moment we publish an article — the rewriting happens in your browser, not in ours — which is why every guide carries an unconditional disclosure at the top instead:
This article contains advertising. Our booking links are routed through a partner that adds commission tracking automatically, so if you book through one we earn a commission from the provider, at no extra cost to you. It never affects what we recommend.
When you follow one of those links and book, the provider pays us a small commission out of its own margin. Your price is unaffected.
What we do not do
There is no paid placement on this site. No hotel, restaurant, tour operator or attraction can pay to be included, to be ranked higher, or to be described more kindly, and no partner sees an article before it is published. There are no sponsored posts and no guest posts. Recommendations are made the way the about page describes: from primary sources, and with the free option named when the free option is better.
What this means for your data
Our booking partner, Stay22, runs a script on this site that rewrites booking links and identifies your device so a booking can be credited to us. It does this using characteristics of your browser and device rather than a cookie, and it stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage. You can refuse this in the cookie settings, and refusing does not limit what you can read here.
The script sits in the marketing category of the site’s consent tool and does not load until that category is allowed. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland that means it does not run unless you agree; in the United States and Canada it runs by default and the Cookie settings link in the footer switches it off. Advertising
No display advertising is running on this site at the time of writing. We are preparing to carry it, and the privacy policy describes how that will work when it begins.
