Privacy Policy
Last updated 16 September 2026. This policy describes what Miami Tourism Guide (www.miamitourism.org) actually does with information today. Where something is planned but not yet running, it says so rather than pretending otherwise.
The short version
You can read every guide on this site without giving us anything. We do not have accounts, logins, comments or a newsletter, so there is nothing to sign up for and no profile attached to you. The only time you deliberately hand us information is when you fill in the contact form. Everything else is the ordinary background of running a website — server logs and Google Analytics — plus the display advertising that pays for the site, which is described below.
When you read a guide
The site is hosted by DreamHost, which records standard web-server logs for every request: IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the page you arrived from. These are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse or errors. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not sold or shared with anyone.
The site also runs WP Super Cache, which serves saved copies of pages for speed, and EWWW Image Optimizer, which compresses images. Neither collects anything about you.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people read and where they arrive from. It tells us that a hundred people read the Everglades day-trip guide from a phone last week; it does not tell us who they were. Analytics sets cookies in your browser and sends Google information including a randomly generated identifier, your approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you view and how long you spend on them. Google processes this as our data processor, and IP addresses are truncated before storage.
Google’s own explanation of how it handles data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out across every site that uses Analytics with Google’s browser add-on, or block the cookies in your browser settings.
To stop Analytics, use Google’s opt-out add-on above or block its cookies in your browser; the guides work the same without it.
Advertising
This site is funded by display advertising. Our ads are sold and served by Mediavine, an advertising network, through its Journey platform. We do not choose the individual ads you see, they are clearly distinguishable from the guides, and advertisers have no say in what we write.
Mediavine and the advertising partners it works with may set cookies and similar identifiers to select ads, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether an ad was seen. Where the law requires your permission first, they are not loaded until you give it.
Those partners can use what they collect to show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Beyond the controls described below, you can opt out of interest-based advertising from many networks at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com, and from Google’s through Google Ads Settings.
Mediavine also provides the privacy controls for its advertising. Depending on where you are, a control appears at the bottom of the page — Manage Preferences in the UK and EU, or Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information in the US states that grant that right — and you can change your choice at any time through it. These controls are shown according to your location, so if no such law applies where you are, you may not see one. Mediavine adds its own advertising privacy notice to the end of this page, and its privacy policy covers what it collects.
Nothing on this site is sponsored content, and no venue has paid to appear here or to be described the way it is. There are no affiliate links either: we earn no commission on anything you book after following a link from this site.
When you use the contact form
The form on the contact page is run by WPForms. When you submit it we receive the name, email address, category and message you typed. The submission is emailed to the site’s inbox and passes through WP Mail SMTP on the way. We use it to answer you and, where you have flagged a factual error, to fix the guide.
We do not add you to any mailing list — there is no mailing list. We do not pass what you send to any venue, hotel or tour operator mentioned on the site. Correspondence is kept while it is useful and deleted when it is not; you can ask us to delete yours sooner.
Comments and accounts
Comments are switched off across the whole site and there is no reader registration, so we hold no comment data, no usernames and no passwords belonging to visitors.
Links to other sites
Our guides link out a great deal — to the National Park Service for the Everglades, to Florida State Parks, to Miami-Dade County transit pages, to museums such as PAMM and Vizcaya, and to venue websites. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else’s site under someone else’s policy. We have no control over what they collect and no responsibility for it.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the EEA, the GDPR gives you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to processing, and to receive a copy. Our legal basis for analytics is legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used; for advertising cookies it is your consent, collected through Mediavine’s consent tool; for the contact form it is your consent, given by choosing to write to us.
If you are a California resident, or live in another US state with a comparable privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We do not sell or share anything you send us through the contact form. The advertising cookies described above can count as sharing under those laws, and the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information control Mediavine shows in those states is how you opt out of it.
To exercise any of this, write to us through the contact form. Realistically, unless you have emailed us before, the only thing we are likely to hold is anonymised analytics that cannot be tied back to you.
Children
This site is written for adults planning travel, including plenty of guidance on visiting Miami with children. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When what we do changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
