Visiting Miami in November

The clocks go back on the first Sunday of November, and in Miami you feel it the same evening: the sun drops into the Everglades around half past five, the air on the bayfront has lost its wet weight, and for the first time since May a table on a terrace sounds better than one in the air conditioning. The dry season has arrived, the last weeks of hurricane season slip quietly past, and the winter crowds are still a month away. For a lot of people who know the city well, Miami in November is the best-kept secret of the calendar — near-perfect weather at prices that have not yet caught up with it.
This guide covers how to plan a November trip: what it costs and how busy it gets, the events worth timing a visit around, what is good to do this month in particular, the Thanksgiving question, and who the month suits. Event dates are for 2026, and prices and hours were checked in October 2026; treat them as the right order of magnitude rather than a quote. For temperatures and rainfall in every month, see our Miami weather by month guide.

Is November a Good Time to Visit Miami?
It is one of the best. November is when Miami’s weather turns from “hot and wet” to “warm and dry”, with daytime highs around 81°F and noticeably less rain than in October. The beaches are still warm enough for a proper swim, and the evenings are pleasant enough to eat outside, walk the Art Deco District or linger at a rooftop bar without melting.
At the same time, the peak season has not properly started. The big winter crowds, the Art Basel madness of early December and the holiday price spikes are all still ahead. Outside Thanksgiving week, hotel rates in Miami Beach and downtown are generally far lower than they will be from mid-December to April, and restaurants that are impossible to book in February have tables.
The only real drawbacks are small ones. Days are shorter, so beach afternoons end earlier. A passing cold front can bring a breezy, cloudy day with rough surf. And Thanksgiving week behaves like peak season. Compare the months in our guide to the best time to visit Miami.
The Weather, Briefly
Expect highs around 80°F, lows around 70°F and about 3 inches of rain over the whole month — roughly half of October’s total. Rain, when it comes, is more likely to be a gray, drizzly day tied to a front than the violent afternoon thunderstorms of summer. Humidity falls noticeably, especially in the second half of the month.
The ocean holds its heat well into the fall and is still comfortably swimmable, typically in the high 70s. It is a good month for sunburn, because the air feels mild and people forget how strong the sun still is at this latitude.
Cold fronts are the thing to watch. A strong one can drop the overnight low into the low 60s for a night or two and bring a stiff north wind, choppy water and red flags on the beach. They rarely last long. For the detailed numbers, see our weather by month guide.

The End of Hurricane Season
Atlantic hurricane season officially runs until 30 November, and late-season storms remain possible, so check the forecast before you fly and book flexible rates. Water temperatures in the Gulf and the Atlantic are falling, and the peak of the season — from mid-August to mid-October — is past.
Low is not zero, though. Late-season storms do happen: Hurricane Nicole came ashore on Florida’s east coast in November 2022, well north of Miami, but close enough to make visitors change plans. The sensible approach is the same as any fall month. Book cancellable rates where you can, buy travel insurance before a storm has a name, and glance at the National Hurricane Center’s outlook in the week before you travel. Most years, you will not need any of it.
Crowds and Prices
The first three weeks
From 1 November to the weekend before Thanksgiving, Miami is in a sweet spot. The snowbirds — the winter residents from the Northeast and Canada — are starting to arrive, restaurants are getting busier, and weekends are lively. But hotels are still priced for shoulder season, especially from Sunday to Thursday, and the beaches are quiet on weekdays. This is the time to book an oceanfront room you could not justify in February. Our guide to where to stay in Miami compares the neighborhoods.
Thanksgiving week
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November in 2026, and the week around it is effectively peak season. Families come down for the holiday, flights into MIA and FLL are expensive and full, and hotels in Miami Beach raise their prices sharply. If you want a November trip on a budget, avoid the Wednesday-to-Sunday stretch around the holiday entirely.
The approach to Art Basel
Art Basel Miami Beach takes over the Miami Beach Convention Center on the first weekend of December (4–6 December 2026, with VIP previews beforehand), and the wider Miami Art Week of satellite fairs, parties and pop-ups starts a few days earlier. Hotel prices in Miami Beach, Wynwood and downtown soar from the very end of November. If your trip runs into the first days of December, check prices carefully before committing. Our Art Basel Miami Beach guide covers the week.
November Events Worth Planning Around
November is quieter than October or December for big festivals, but it has some excellent ones. See our Miami events and festivals guide for the full year.
Miami Book Fair (15–22 November 2026)
Miami Book Fair is one of the largest and oldest literary festivals in the United States, and 2026 is its 43rd edition. It runs for eight days, from 15 to 22 November, at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami, with nearly 500 authors. Evenings bring big-name author talks, many of them ticketed; the fair has a strong Spanish-language program reflecting the city; and the outdoor street fair of booksellers, food and children’s activities traditionally fills the final weekend. Check the program when it is published, because the headline talks sell out.
It is a lovely, very local event, and a completely different side of Miami from the beaches and nightclubs. The campus is on the Metromover, so you can reach it easily from downtown and Brickell hotels.

Thanksgiving (26 November 2026)
Thanksgiving in Miami is warm, and that changes it. Many locals spend the morning on the beach or on a boat before the meal, and plenty of Cuban-American families add roast pork, black beans and yuca to the turkey. For visitors, the practical points are simple:
- Book Thanksgiving dinner early. Many restaurants and hotel dining rooms offer set Thanksgiving menus, and the best fill weeks ahead.
- Expect some closures. Smaller independent restaurants, museums and some attractions close on the day. Check before you go.
- Black Friday is big. Sawgrass Mills, Aventura Mall and Dolphin Mall are packed from early morning. Our Sawgrass Mills guide and Aventura Mall guide have tips for surviving it.
- Traffic is heavy on the Wednesday before and on Sunday afternoon, especially on I-95 and around the airport.
URGE Miami Thanksgiving Festival (27–30 November 2026)
Thanksgiving weekend is also one of the big LGBTQ+ weekends of the Miami year. The URGE Miami Thanksgiving Festival runs from 27 to 30 November 2026, with daytime events, nighttime parties and a beach party. Our LGBTQ+ Miami guide covers the scene year-round.
Stone crab season
Stone crab season opened on 15 October and runs until 1 May, and by November the claws are plentiful. Joe’s Stone Crab on Miami Beach is the institution, and many seafood restaurants around the city serve them. Our Miami seafood restaurants guide lists the best.
Sports
November is a big month for sports fans. The Miami Heat are in full swing at Kaseya Center downtown, easily reached by Metromover. The Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Hurricanes play at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, and the Florida Panthers are on the ice in Sunrise. See our Miami sports guide for venues and tickets.
What to Do in Miami in November
November’s weather makes it one of the best months for Miami’s outdoor side. These are the experiences that are particularly good right now.
The Everglades
November is the start of the Everglades’ dry season, and one of the first months when a visit is genuinely comfortable. Water levels begin to fall, which starts to concentrate wildlife around the remaining water, and the mosquitoes, while not gone, are far less brutal than in summer. The Anhinga Trail, where alligators sun themselves beside the boardwalk, gets better as the month goes on, and Shark Valley — the closest entrance to Miami — is a lovely place to cycle or take the tram. Airboat tours on the edge of the park run year-round. Our Everglades tour guide covers the options.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Fairchild, in Coral Gables, is 83 acres of tropical plants from around the world — more than 3,400 species — founded in 1938 and open daily from 10am to 5pm. Booking online, admission is $24.95 on weekdays and $27.95 on weekends for adults, $17.95 and $20.95 for seniors, and $11.95 and $14.95 for children aged 3 to 11, with under-3s free. Buying at the gate costs $5 more for adults and seniors and $4 more for children. The free narrated tram tour is a good way to get your bearings. In summer, Fairchild is a sweaty experience; in November, it is a delight. Our Miami outdoors and nature guide has more parks and gardens.
Kayaking and paddleboarding
Calm, dry November days are ideal for getting on the water. Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach, Florida’s largest urban state park, rents kayaks, canoes and paddleboards through its outfitter, and has more than 10 miles of mountain bike trails if you would rather ride. Entry is $6 per vehicle. On Key Biscayne, Crandon Park rents kayaks at its north concession, and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park ($8 per vehicle) has one of the most beautiful beaches in the city and a historic lighthouse.
Beaches without the sweat
With warm water, fewer people and a gentler sun, November is a great beach month. South Beach is at its best on weekday mornings; Crandon Park is the pick for families; and Haulover, in the north, has space, lifeguards year-round and a relaxed atmosphere. Keep an eye on the flags after a cold front, when the surf can get rough. Our Miami beaches guide compares them all.
Outdoor dining and rooftop bars
This is the month when Miami moves outside again. Terraces in Coconut Grove, sidewalk cafés on Española Way, courtyard restaurants in the Design District and rooftop bars in Brickell all come into their own. Our Miami rooftop bars guide is a good starting point for the evenings.
Walking the neighborhoods
The Art Deco District, Wynwood’s murals, Little Havana’s Calle Ocho and the leafy streets of Coconut Grove are all far more enjoyable on foot in November than in the summer. Guided walking tours, which can be a slog in August, are at their best now.

What Is Not at Its Best in November
A few things are worth knowing so they do not catch you out.
- Pool parties and day clubs wind down. The main season runs from roughly March to October, so many hotel pool parties are quieter or on a winter schedule.
- Late beach afternoons are shorter. With sunset around 5:30pm, plan beach time earlier in the day.
- Snorkeling can be hit or miss when fronts stir up the water and the wind. Keep a flexible day.
- Thanksgiving week bargains do not exist. Plan around it if price matters.
Day Trips in November
The dry, settled weather makes November one of the best months to venture beyond the city.
The Florida Keys and Key West are a long but beautiful drive down the Overseas Highway, around three and a half hours each way to Key West. November’s calmer seas and lower humidity make the stops along the way — Key Largo’s snorkel trips, the beaches of Bahia Honda, the Seven Mile Bridge — far more pleasant than in late summer. It works best as an overnight. Our Key West day trip guide has the route.
Biscayne National Park, south of the city, is mostly water, and its boat trips and paddling are at their best on still, clear days. Check conditions before driving down, because a breezy front can cancel trips. Fort Lauderdale, north of Miami, makes an easy half day if you allow for traffic on the drive, with its canals, the Riverwalk and Las Olas Boulevard.
Our day trips from Miami guide covers all of them.
Making November Go Further
The easiest saving in November is simply avoiding Thanksgiving week and the last days of the month. Beyond that, fly midweek, stay from Sunday to Thursday, and consider a downtown or Brickell hotel on weekends, when business rates drop. Many of the best experiences this month cost little or nothing: the beaches, the bayfront walk, the murals of Wynwood outside the ticketed Walls, Domino Park in Little Havana and the free Metromover loop. State parks such as Oleta River charge a few dollars per car, not per person, which makes them excellent value for groups.
If you are visiting for the Book Fair, many daytime sessions and the street fair are low-cost, and the Metromover gets you there free. Our Miami budget tips and free things to do in Miami guides have more.
Where to Stay in November
November is the month to upgrade. With rates still below winter levels for most of the month, an oceanfront hotel in South Beach, Mid-Beach or Surfside can be surprisingly affordable. For the Book Fair, a downtown or Brickell hotel puts you on the Metromover a few stops from the campus. For a quieter, greener stay, Coconut Grove is lovely in the dry season and handy for Vizcaya, Fairchild and Key Biscayne.
If your trip runs into late November or the first days of December, book early and check the rates carefully: Thanksgiving and the start of Miami Art Week push prices up fast.
Getting Around in November
The dry weather makes Miami easier to navigate than in the summer and fall. The free Metromover covers downtown, Brickell and the Omni area, and the Metrorail Orange Line connects the airport to downtown. Rideshares are the easiest way to reach Miami Beach, Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne. A rental car is worth it only if you plan day trips to the Everglades, Fairchild or the Keys.
Watch for heavy traffic over Thanksgiving, and on weekend evenings around Kaseya Center when the Heat play at home. Our Miami transportation guide covers every option.
What to Pack for November
- Summer clothes for the day: shorts, T-shirts, sundresses and swimwear.
- A light sweater or jacket for evenings and for a cold front. Restaurants and malls keep the air conditioning on too.
- Closed shoes for walking tours, the Everglades and Fairchild.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat; the sun is still strong.
- Insect repellent for the Everglades and the parks.
- Something smart for Thanksgiving dinner or a good restaurant.
Our what to wear in Miami guide has more detail.
